These handwoven 100% wool mats are made by the Zapotec people in the village of Teotitlan Del Valle in Oaxaca, Mexico. The yarns are hand spun, hand dyed, and hand carded. Most dyes used are organic natural dyes made from leaves, berries, rocks and even insects. Beautiful work.
Flat weave rugs make great layer elements when used with other flat weaves or with different textured rugs. Since they’re more pliable and lighter, flat weaves aren’t only for the floor. They are wonderful as a throw or furniture accent or on a wall like a tapestry.
